Wally’s Squadron R/C Flyers 22nd annual Fly-In August 15th – 18th 2013

Wally’s Squadron is very honored to have been selected to represent WV and District III for the first ever National Model Aviation Day August 17 and to be a fund raiser for the Wounded Warrior project.

We registered 178 pilots from all around District III as well as many other states outside our District.

Along with these pilots and their families were around 1000 R/C aircraft from small electric planes and helis, to 700 size helis and 60% giant scale aircraft and some of the best piloting that could be seen anywhere. The event has grown from two days to now four days, with lots of folks showing up a full week prior to the show. Thursday and Friday are open flying all day and night with Saturday being the Big day for spectators and activities. Saturday was also filled with free pilot door prize drawings for the registered pilots. Thanks to the support of all of our sponsors we had over 50 items to give away.

Saturday was filled with plenty of activities, including free foam glider flying games for the youngsters in which the winners of each of 3 heats won a Blade heli sponsored by T&K Hobbies. Free Hotdogs were served by our local Boy Scout Troop 107.  They also prepared and served the pilots and families a free Ham dinner Saturday evening. This was followed by the Saturday annual night fly in the fireworks that has to be seen to be appreciated!

Vendors were on site with almost anything you might want or need to keep your aircraft flying, or to pick-up that new item you have been wanting.

This event was the first since the passing of Wally Henderson, which along with Buck Hamrick and Keith Naye, founded Wally’s Squadron.

In Wally’s honor during the noontime break, Buck and Keith released Wally’s ashes from a Rascal 110. This was a very touching moment for all.
